The Mayor and six Council members are elected at large on staggered terms and act as the elected representatives of the citizens of Belton to formulate public policy to meet community needs and assure orderly development in the City.

 

The Council appoints the City Manager, City Attorney and Municipal Judge, along with various citizen boards and commissions. All ordinances and resolutions, the annual budget and ad valorem tax rate, and the Strategic Plan are adopted by the City Council. The City Council establishes the fees and rates for all City goods and services, and approves purchases and contracts as prescribed by the City Charter and State Law.
